Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace Distillery on the Kentucky River in Frankfort. Official history ties whiskey-making on the site to Leestown (founded 1775) along buffalo traces; later chapters include Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr.’s O.F.C. Distillery (1870), George T. Stagg Distillery (from 1904) and the Buffalo Trace name from 1999. The company calls it America’s oldest continually operating distillery and a National Historic Landmark (designated 2013)—a rare intact example operating before, during and after Prohibition. Brands produced on site span a wide portfolio; warehouses date from the 1880s onward (Warehouse A, built 1881, now houses the visitor center and gift shop). Freehouse check-in, gift shop, complimentary guided tastings and reserved tours are available.
