Bowmore Distillery

Islay distillery first recorded in 1779; Bowmore describes it as the oldest licensed distillery on Islay. It still operates its own malt barn, turning barley by hand every four hours, then drying malt over peat in its kiln. Production uses a Porteus mill, Oregon pine washbacks and four stills; maturation includes the No.1 Vaults on the shores of Loch Indaal. Visitor experiences are offered at the distillery.
