Fort William distillery founded in 1825 by John MacDonald; early whisky was sold as “Long John’s Dew of Ben Nevis”. Process water descends from Ben Nevis via lochans and Allt a’Mhuillin. Official history records Nikka Whisky acquiring the distillery in 1989, with production restarting after plant renewal and a visitor centre opening in 1991; the distillery marked its 200th anniversary in 2025.
