Islay single malt distillery founded in 1815 when John Macdougall took out a licence. The brand presents Ardbeg as the smokiest of the Islay single malts, balancing peat with sweetness. Closed in 1981, it was bought by The Glenmorangie Company in 1997 and returned to full-time production; a new stillhouse in 2021 doubled capacity from two stills to four.
