Kentucky bourbon distillery at Star Hill Farm in Loretto, Marion County. T. William “Bill” Samuels Sr. purchased the historic Burks’ Distillery site in 1953; Maker’s Mark production followed, with the brand’s hand-dipped red wax seal becoming its signature. The site is a National Historic Landmark (listed as Burks’ Distillery). Maker’s Mark presents the campus as the Homeplace, with guided tours (reservations required), gift shop, Homeplace Bar and Star Hill Provisions restaurant. The distillery is an official Kentucky Bourbon Trail® stop. Distillery and gift shop hours: Monday–Saturday 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Sunday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; closed major holidays including Easter, July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day and New Year’s Eve/Day.
