Kavalan Distillery

Taiwan’s first whisky distillery, founded in 2005 by the King Car Group in Yuanshan Township, Yilan County. Named after Yilan’s older indigenous Kavalan name. Official history: distillery completed 31 December 2005, first spirit 11 March 2006, first bottling (Kavalan Classic) and public opening 4 December 2008. King Car describes mineral-rich Snow Mountain meltwater and subtropical heat/humidity with sea and mountain breezes as shaping maturation and a fruity character. The campus includes Spirit Castle tasting areas, souvenir shop and guided tours (Chinese, English and Japanese; English tours by advance request).
