Sweden’s pioneering malt whisky distillery, founded in 1999 near Gävle. Mackmyra’s modern Gravity / Whiskyby plant at Kolonnvägen uses a multi-storey gravity-fed layout designed to cut energy use versus a conventional floor plan. Official and widely published company history notes local Swedish ingredients (including Swedish oak and peat), recipes developed from early Elegant and Smoke styles, and maturation including the Bodås mine about 50 metres underground.
