Tomatin Distillery
Tomatin, Scotland
Highland single malt distillery established in 1897 when the Tomatin Spey District Distillery was registered. By 1974 it had 23 stills and was the largest malt distillery in the world; stills were later reduced to 12 as focus shifted to single malt. In 1986 it was purchased by Japanese companies; Takara Shuzo remains the majority shareholder. The house style is unpeated, light, soft and fruity; Cù Bòcan is its lightly peated brand.
